Conference Champs

The conference championship games have concluded and Super Bowl 59 is set.

We have the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Philadelphia Eagles for the second time in three years. A rematch of Super Bowl 57.

I want to first start off by talking about the teams who lost in Championship weekend.

The Washington Commanders had one of the craziest seasons we’ve seen in a while. The Commanders started the year slow, but after a late season resurgence they made themselves true playoff contenders. They concluded their regular season with a solid 12-5 record.

Making the playoffs was a win within itself as Washington wasn’t favored to win many games before the year. Not only did they make the playoffs, they also won two playoff games. One of them being against the #1 seeded Detroit Lions, many peoples Super Bowl favorite.

Their magical run ended in the conference championship as the Eagles were simply just the better team. Still, accomplishing all this with a rookie quarterback and new head coach is no easy feat.

Jayden Daniels is a problem. I only see this Washington team getting better from here. Not saying they will be in the NFC championship every year but these aren’t the same old Commanders that we are used to.

Now on to the AFC, where the Buffalo Bills once again came up short. I personally feel terrible for Buffalo fans.

They definitely seem like the most snake bitten franchise in the league, almost as if they were born to lose in big moments. After all, they are the only franchise ever to lose four consecutive Super Bowls.

Buffalo has now lost to Kansas City specifically, four of the last five years in the playoffs. It’s not like the Bills always play terrible or make big mistakes against KC, they just can’t seem to ever get the job done.

I think Josh Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the league but his kryptonite is the Chiefs. It’s time to call a spade a spade.

Until we see otherwise it seems Buffalo is a broken record destined to end up in the same spot every year. The real question is will they ever be able to get over the hump?

The Philadelphia Eagles will once again be representing the NFC in the Super Bowl. After a rough exit from the playoffs in the first round last season they managed to get things back on track again this year.

The Eagles have one of the most loaded teams in the league but the key to their success has been the run game. Led by the most dominant offensive line in the league, running back Saquon Barkley has truly began to flourish.

Saquon has been nothing short of amazing all season and even found another gear when it came time for the playoffs. He has 3 touchdowns of 60+ yards during this postseason, which is the most by any player in NFL history. Barkley is also only 30 rushing yards from breaking the record for most all time in a season including playoffs.

Barkley is Philadelphia’s true X factor in this Super Bowl and if we see a different result than last time these teams played, he could very well be the reason.

Lastly, and most importantly, on to the back to back champions the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City is already a dynasty winning 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls and with a win next week it will be 4 of the last 5.

If they win this year they are automatically one of the best dynasties we have ever seen.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has had statistically the best start to a career ever. This is his 8th year as a starter and his 5th Super Bowl appearance, meaning every year he plays he is more likely to make the big game than he isn’t. Not to mention he’s won it three times already.

With a win this time, Mahomes is already getting dangerously close to the greatest of all time. At this pace, when it’s all said and done, I believe he will be.

My prediction for this game is the Eagles somehow find a way to win. It’s not smart of anyone to ever bet against the Chiefs, but I think the Eagles are the perfect match against them. Philadelphia’s dominant lines on both sides of the ball, plus now having Saquon Barkley, I think gives them the slight edge over KC.

3 peat has never happened before, why start now NFL?

I don’t get paid to make decisions or have opinions but it’s always fun to take a deeper dive into the best stories of the week.
