The NFL 2024-2025 regular season has officially come to an end.
As we look forward to the postseason excitement is building across the league. With the regular season behind us and teams gearing up for a new campaign, and the stakes have never been higher.
Today, instead of diving into any of storylines we missed I will be giving my predictions for the 2024-25 NFL awards.
These awards include:
Rookie of the year
Offensive player of the year
Defensive player of the year
Coach of the year
MVP
Starting off with the rookie of the year award. This award was one of the easier ones to pick as I believe there are only two real candidates.
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers and Washington Commanders quarterback Jaden Daniels.
Bowers had an incredible rookie season breaking multiple receiving records along the way but unfortunately this award is favored for quarterbacks.
That is why my pick for ROTY is Jaden Daniels. What makes Daniels such a unique player is his ability to hurt defenses both through the air and on the ground. Daniels and coach Dan Quinn have completely turned around the Commanders in one season and I only see more success in the future.
Next up is the Offensive Player of the Year award. Pretty self explanatory this award is given to the best offensive player of this season.
Typically, I see this given to the best player in the league who is NOT a quarterback. This season it’s an incredibly tight race between running back Saquon Barkley and receiver Jamar Chase.
Both players make extremely valid cases to win the award. Barkley is coming off a season where he could have broken the all time single season rushing record if he plays in week 18. Chase on the other hand, won the triple crown for receivers. This means he lead the league in catches, yards, and touchdowns.
My pick for the award is Saquon Barkley. Saquon had one of the best running back seasons we’ve seen in a while, amassing over 2,000 rushing yards. He added another dimension to an already loaded Eagles offense.
Jamar Chase is only 24 years old, and I don’t think it’s a bold statement to say that he can win multiple of these awards before his career is all said and done. It wouldn’t even surprise me if he won this year.
There hasn’t been much hype surrounding the defensive player of the year award. The current favorites to win are pass rushing specialists TJ Watt, Myles Garrett, and cornerback Patrick Surtain II.
This was one of the harder predictions to make as I don’t see any clear favorites at this time. Usually DPOY is determined by sacks, that’s the stat that gets everyones attention at least.
Pat Surtain II has been so good at cornerback this year that I think its hard to deny him the award. He simply shuts down any receiver he is faces. Surtain allowed the fewest yards as a cornerback only allowing 279 yards all season.
We haven’t seen a defensive back win this award since 2019, it will be a nice change to see it happen again.
Next up we have the Coach of the year award. This one for me comes down to only three coaches. Kevin O’Connell (Vikings), Dan Cambell (Lions), or Jim Harbaugh (Chargers).
Jim Harbaugh completely changed the Chargers culture in only one season. He took them from a top five pick in the draft to a top five seed in the conference playoffs. Unfortunately, I still don’t think this is the year Jim wins.
Kevin O’Connell did a fantastic job getting the Vikings to 14 wins this season. I doubt anyone believed that the Vikings would be this good. Most years O’Connell would be a lock for this award, but I don’t think it’ll happen this season either.
My pick is Lions coach Dan Cambell. I feel he is due, he deserved the award last year but didn’t win. Taking a historically bad franchise and making them into a powerhouse is no easy feat. The Lions are legit and have a real chance at their first ever Superbowl victory.
Lastly, and most importantly the MVP. Its only between Bills Quarterback Josh Allen and Ravens Quarteback Lamar Jackson.
I really wanted to pick Josh Allen this year. He had an incredible season and definitely did more with less. I like Josh as much as the next person but the MVP is Lamar Jackson.
Lamar is just different. He leads Allen in almost every statistical category and the Ravens seem more dominant than ever. The only way I see this changing is if the Ravens somehow get bounced early into the playoffs. If Baltimore makes a deep run, Lamar will win his third MVP award.
I don’t get paid to make decisions or have opinions but it’s always fun to take a deeper dive into the best stories of the week.
