This week was one of the most exciting weeks we have had in a long time. As we move deeper into December, the intensity of the NFL season continues to ramp up.
Week 14 saw thrilling matchups, major upsets, and a few standout performances.
Let’s start by talking about the new 12-team College Football Playoffs format.
For the first time, the College Football Playoffs will feature 12 teams, an expansion from the previous 4-team format.
It seemed like every year there was one team that had an amazing season and would still miss the playoffs due to only 4 teams being selected.
For example, Florida State went undefeated in 2023 and still was not selected to the playoffs due to their quarterback getting injured in the final game.
This move has been years in the making and promises to create a more inclusive and competitive postseason for college football.
I am excited to see how this new 12-team format will play out.
Now let’s move back to the NFL and the top stories surrounding the league.
The Kansas City Chiefs black magic strikes again. The Chiefs beat the Chargers on a field goal that hit the crossbar and still somehow managed to go in.
Call it black magic if you want (like me) but the real reason they keep winning is the Chiefs have the best 3rd down percentage of the last decade.
It’s hard to beat any team when you can’t stop them on 3rd down let alone the back-to-back Super Bowl champs.
This team is extremely beatable though and I believe their magic HAS to run out at some point. Hopefully.
The Aaron Rodgers experiment in New York is officially over.
Rodgers’ arrival in New York was met with excitement and optimism. The Jets had a young and talented roster, highlighted by dynamic receivers and a great defense.
On paper, the Jets were a quarterback away from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The plan, however, did not go as expected. In Rodgers’ first season with the Jets, he lasted a total of 4 snaps before getting injured and ending his season.
In 2024, Rodgers was expected to be fully recovered and finally get his shot with this new Jets team. For most of this season, Aaron has been able to stay healthy but has severely underperformed on the field.
Rodgers looks slow and old this season and his offensive line has done him no favors.
After a wild season of firing coaches and making trades, the Jets fell to 3-10 on the season after this week. Who knows if Rodgers will try to play next season but one thing is for sure, it won’t be with the Jets.
This season marks 15 straight years since the Jets went to the playoffs. The longest streak in the league. Tough scene in New York.
For my game of the week this past Sunday I had the Seattle Seahawks over the Arizona Cardinals. Seattle was able to win this one and take sole control of the division. This win takes us to 6-2 on picks this season.
For the Cardinals, it was the biggest game of the year, the chance to take the division, and yet they came out flat. This is becoming a yearly pattern for Arizona.
For this upcoming game of the week, we have maybe the best matchup of the entire season. The Buffalo Bills vs Detroit Lions. We could be getting a Super Bowl preview in this one.
This is one of the toughest picks I’ve had to make all season.
Detroit is favored to win this game by 2 and a half points. Once again, I’ll be going against the books and taking the Bills to win.
Buffalo is coming off a tough loss from last week to the Rams. Even in a loss, they were able to score 42 points and quarterback Josh Allen contributed 6 total touchdowns.
This is truly anyone’s game but I think Buffalo sneaks by.
I don’t get paid to make decisions or have opinions but it’s always fun to take a deeper dive into the best stories of the week.
