We are coming very close to the end of the 2024 season and by now we know who the true contenders and pretenders are.
As teams push toward the postseason, every win and loss carries weight, and this week was no different.
It’s been a few weeks since we’ve done a deep dive so let’s go over some of the things we missed.
After the Giants tough loss in Germany to the Carolina Panthers, I spoke about how I believed it was finally the end for Daniel Jones in New York.
Unfortunately, I was correct as Daniel Jones was flat-out released the week after this game. He has since signed with the Minnesota Vikings in a backup role.
After five seasons with the Giants, the decision to part ways with the 26-year-old quarterback comes after a series of underwhelming performances, injury setbacks, and mounting pressure on the franchise to move forward in a new direction.
New York will have a top pick in the draft and they will almost certainly be trying again for a new franchise signal caller.
The Chicago Bears have officially fired head coach Matt Eberflus after two seasons.
The decision marks the end of an era that began with high hopes but was ultimately defined by inconsistency and underperformance.
Last week’s game on Thanksgiving was the final straw for Eberflus. The Bears drove down the field down 3 points on what should have been a game-tying drive.
Chicago was in field goal range, with 9 seconds left, and even had a time-out in their pocket. They instead decided to not call a timeout and threw the ball downfield leading to an incompletion and time running out.
Even with all of the new talent surrounding the team in 2024 the Bears still found a way to mess it up. Only time will tell if their next coach can get things going in the right direction for this organization.
In other news, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is having an MVP type of season and no one seems to care because they can’t win a game.
For the last three games straight the Bengals have scored at least 27 points and they are 0-3 in that stretch.
For reference, they have scored 99 points during this time which is the most in NFL history for a team that has lost 3 straight. It’s time to invest in the defense for Cincinnati.
The last time we made a pick for the game of the week I had Buffalo beating Kansas City. Thank God I was correct and the Bills handed the Chiefs their first loss of the season. That win brought us to 5-2 on picks this year.
Buffalo looks dominant, and for me, they are easily the best team in the AFC. They do have some stiff competition in the Ravens, Chiefs, and Steelers though. The AFC playoffs will be a fun watch come January.
Not many great matchups this Sunday, but for my game of the week I’m excited to watch the Seattle Seahawks vs Arizona Cardinals.
Neither of these teams are great or exciting in any aspect but this game holds heavy playoff implications. Seattle sits one game ahead of the Cardinals in the division but with a loss they can switch spots.
It’s anyone’s game in the NFC West and no one seems to want to win it. The books have the Cardinals as 2-and-a-half-point favorites to win this one.
I’m going against the books and taking the Seahawks. This one could go either way but I simply think Seattle has the better team and needs this win for sole control of the division.
I don’t get paid to make decisions or have opinions but it’s always fun to take a deeper dive into the best stories of the week.
