This past Saturday I was invited to a commitment party for star track runners Loren Webster and Kaylin Edwards.
I was invited to be first on the scene and get the initial scoop of what schools they were going to commit to.
Both girls are a part of the state champion team at Long Beach Wilson High School in Southern California.
Loren Webster’s name has been making waves in track and field circles for some time now, thanks to her exceptional skill and dedication to the sport.
Track however actually wasn’t even Loren’s first sport growing up. Loren explained to me that she grew up competing in gymnastics for a long period of her life and barely started running track her Freshman year of high school.
Loren already has many accomplishments through her high school career. This past season Loren was the California long jump champion as well as making the Nike elite team; nothing short of exceptional.
Going into this Saturday Loren had narrowed down her choices for her top five universities. She was choosing between SMU, UCLA, Kentucky, Arkansas and Oregon; an amazing selection of schools to choose from.
Loren ultimately held up the ”O” and announced her commitment to the University of Oregon!
Her decision to join the Oregon Ducks promises to add a new layer of talent and determination to one of the best programs in the country.
Now, let’s not forget about Kaylin Edwards, a track and field star who has her own fair share of accomplishments!
Last season Kaylin’s athletic ability allowed her to qualify for state in both individual and team events. Not only did Kaylin qualify, but she also became the California state champion of the 300 hurdles!
Hailing from a background that was surrounded in competition, she has proven herself in both sprinting and jumping events, making a name for herself at the national level.
Kaylin’s accomplishments have caught the attention of collegiate programs across the country. Now, it was time for her to narrow down her top three universities, which ultimately came down to Kentucky, Arkansas, and Oregon.
Kaylin made her decision, officially committing to the University of Arkansas!
This decision marks an exciting new chapter in Edwards’ career. Under the guidance of Arkansas’ coaching staff, she will have the opportunity to hone in her skills and compete at the highest level of collegiate athletics.
The world of track and field continues to be a stage for rising stars and Loren Webster and Kaylin Edwards are up next. Both of these athletes are a reminder of the talent and dedication that continues to define the track and field community.
Kaylin and Loren both have goals of hopefully participating in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 and with their talent and determination I definitely wouldn’t put it past them.
