Another Sunday and yet another game of the week coming down to the very end. The Pittsburgh Steelers were able to come away with the win by one point against the Washington Commanders. This win now takes us to 4-2 on picks this season.
Russell Wilson has had a hot start to his season becoming 3-0 as a starter for the Steelers. They look like true contenders for a deep playoff run with him running the offense.
What’s concerning to me about Pittsburgh is they have yet to play any division opponents this season. This means they still have two games each against the red-hot Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.
I’m curious to see if they can keep the winning coming against opponents who are more familiar with Pittsburgh’s style of play.
This was a tough loss for the Commanders but for me more than anything this was a moral victory. As I said before no one expected them to be this good yet playing under a first-year quarterback and head coach.
That being said, Quarterback Jayden Daniels seems like a lock to take home the Rookie of the Year award, and head coach Dan Quinn is gaining serious consideration for the Coach of the Year award. Not bad for a couple of newcomers to the organization.
This is a very young, talented team and they play hard against any opponent they line up with. The NFC East division is looking particularly weak this year with the struggles of the Cowboys and Giants. If Washington can continue to scrap together wins they should be a shoo-in for the playoffs.
The grim reaper Carolina Panthers strike again defeating the New York Giants in Germany early Sunday morning. Last week after the Panthers beat the Saints we saw New Orleans make plenty of changes around the team and I think the same will happen in New York.
The investment in quarterback Daniel Jones has not worked out, plain and simple. Jones has gotten chance after chance to prove himself as the team’s starter but has continued to fail. I believe this Sunday was his last chance.
Daniel Jones has an injury settlement in his contract worth 23 million dollars. This means if Jones gets hurt at any point this season and can’t make training camp next season then the Giants would owe him that 23 million fully guaranteed.
I think the risk is much greater than the reward on Jones at this point and New York knows that. I believe after their bye week that Daniel will be benched in order to protect him from any injuries.
The Giants currently have the worst record in the league and are right on track for the number one overall pick in the draft. They will almost certainly be selecting a quarterback no matter where their pick ends up.
The choice to resign Jones over running back Saquon Barkley will be one that haunts Giants fans for many years to come.
The Los Angeles Chargers have found a new identity under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Through nine games the Chargers are 6-3, topping their win total from the entire previous season already.
Harbaugh has this Chargers defense ranked the best in the league only surrendering more than 20 points once this season. This was a much-needed change for this organization which has consistently been their own worst enemy for many years.
The term “chargering” was made by NFL fans to best explain the way Los Angeles choked away games in the biggest moments.
This season under Harbaugh that term just doesn’t have the same meaning. This team is built on running the ball and playing great defense. The fundamentals.
As a biased Chargers fan, I’m very pleased about the start of the season so far but I’m not going to get too excited just yet. Los Angeles has had a relatively easy schedule so far with their only 3 losses coming against teams with winning records.
Three of their next four games are against the Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore Ravens, and Kansas City Chiefs with two of them being on prime time. This will be the real test to determine how good this Chargers team really is.
Still, for once the Chargers are winning the games that they’re supposed to win. Only time will tell if they can do the same against better teams.
Lastly, for our upcoming game of the week. Easily the best matchup for Sunday is the Buffalo Bills vs the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kansas City is still somehow undefeated. They get their biggest test of the season this week against the 8-2 Bills. It’s always a great game when we get to watch Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen battle it out.
The books actually have the Bills as two-and-a-half-point favorites to win this one. I know I might regret this because the Chiefs have some kind of black magic that prevents them from losing games but I’m also taking the Bills to win.
Kansas City has been on the verge of losing too many times this season and Buffalo seems like the perfect team at the perfect time to knock them off the edge.
I don’t get paid to make decisions or have opinions but it’s always fun to take a deeper dive into the best stories of the week.
