Week 8

We’re now officially approaching the halfway mark through the 2024 NFL season. The weeks are flying by and the season will be over before we know it.

We had an awesome sports weekend getting to witness a walk-off grand slam in the World Series and a successful Hail Mary in the NFL on Sunday.

Last week on my deep dive we talked about the game of the week between the Washington Commanders and the Chicago Bears. The game lived up to every bit of the hype surrounding it.

Washington held a commanding lead for most of the contest until some late-game heroics from Bears quarterback Caleb Williams brought them back into the game. Chicago scored a touchdown to take the lead 14-12 with just over 30 seconds left to play.

On the final play of the game Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels launched a desperation Hail Mary into the end zone. In the play of the season so far, somehow it was caught by Washington for the walk-off win.

What a game and what a finish. Unfortunately, I did take the Bears to win this game and we are now 2-2 on the season thanks to that play.

The funniest part about this whole situation revolves around Bears defensive back Tyrique Stevenson. During the Hail Mary Stevenson was seen trash-talking Washington fans even well after the play had begun.

As fate may have it of course Stevenson was the player to tip the ball directly into the air and into the hands of the Commanders receiver for the win.

Karma is very real, folks.

It was announced this week that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been benched for this upcoming game.

Richardson was the 4th overall pick in last year’s draft. He only started 15 games in college but was drafted so high due to his sheer talent and athletic ability.

His inexperience had begun to show as he has struggled with consistency and injuries on the field. This past week he caused a lot of controversy over willingly taking himself out of the game due to being “tired”.

Never in my life have I personally seen an NFL quarterback check himself out of a game for anything other than injury. It’s not a good look on Richardson at all as he is supposed to be the leader of the team and never supposed to leave the field.

If I was Richardson I would’ve lied to the media when they asked why I left the game. It’s not a player’s job to be completely honest with the media they can answer however they choose to. Maybe if he lied and said he was injured no one would’ve paid close attention to the story.

Richardson is young and he is still learning how to play the game at the highest level. The Colts said they aren’t giving up on him and I’m not either. I hope he can learn from this experience and come back ready to prove people wrong.

Let’s quickly go over some news from around the league.

The Browns win their first game without Watson, snapping the Ravens 5 game win streak. Not surprised at how well the Browns played with a new quarterback but I am surprised they were actually able to win this game. I’m happy for Cleveland and their fans. Hopefully, they can start to enjoy football again.

The Lions continued their dominance destroying the Tennessee Titans 52-14. Detroit continues to look like Super Bowl contenders while the Titans season is already effectively over. They will be picking the top 5 in next year’s draft.

On Thursday night football the Los Angeles Rams got both starting receivers back in Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. Their offense looked miles better than where it was without them and they were able to pull out a massive win against the Vikings. This win puts their season right back on track in a tight NFC West race.

Not many overly exciting matchups coming this Sunday but my game of the week is between the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks.

Both of these teams are at the top of their division but their seasons seem to be on opposite trajectories. Seattle started the season 3-0 but has been 1-4 since. The Rams on the other hand started the year 1-4 but have ripped off two straight wins since.

The books have this as an extremely close game only favoring Seattle to win by 1 point. I’ll be going against the books and riding with the Rams on this one. Their team simply looks better with all the star players on the field. If Los Angeles can stay healthy I can easily see them making a late-season run and making the playoffs.

I don’t get paid to make decisions or have opinions but it’s always fun to take a deeper dive into the best stories of the week.
