Let’s start this week by looking at some key injuries and trades around the league.
On Monday night football the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost both of their star receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to injury.
Evans has a hamstring injury and has a timetable to return in about 3-4 weeks. Godwin on the other hand, suffered a dislocated ankle and is lost for the remainder of the season.
I have no clue why Chris Godwin was even on the field at that point and time. Tampa Bay was trailing the Ravens by 10 points with only 53 seconds left on the clock when his injury occurred.
The Buccaneers’ chances of winning that game were slim to none so keeping the starters out there late in the game makes no sense to me.
Tampa has had a pretty good season up until this point. They are still right in the mix for the division and it’ll be interesting to see if they can sink or swim with key players missing from their offense.
The Kansas City Chiefs remain the only unbeaten team in football after defeating the 49ers on Sunday. It’s baffling to me that they are still undefeated this season considering the way their star players have played.
Tight end Travis Kelce has yet to score even one touchdown this season and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is having his worst statistical year since becoming a pro.
They have also had a multitude of injuries on offense and are relying heavily on 29-year-old running back Kareem Hunt whom they signed off the couch earlier this year.
With all that being said this team should still scare every NFL fan base. To think Mahomes is having his worst year, Kelce looks like he lost a step and yet they still haven’t lost a game.
The Chiefs have built a winning culture in that organization and as long as Andy Reid is coaching and Mahomes is the quarterback they will always have a chance to win.
This very well could be the first time we see a three-peat in NFL history.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a torn Achilles on Sunday vs the Bengals and is now out for the season.
(See week 1 deep dive for Watson’s contract info)
Seeing Watson go down in pain and hearing the home crowd cheering for it was brutal. I agree with his teammates that it’s never right to pile on someone when they’re down. Regardless of your perception of any player, cheering for an injury is crazy to me.
This injury feels like the final nail in the coffin at this point. Deshaun’s time with the Browns so far has been nothing but injuries and terrible play. The Browns set their franchise back many years by making that trade for Watson.
They are still tied to Watson owing him 46 million dollars each for the next two seasons. He will more than likely be on Cleveland’s roster again next year for the simple fact that nobody in their right mind would trade for him.
I can confidently say that this is the worst contract in American sports history. Cleveland has only one win so far and they are on a path to a top 5 overall pick in this year’s draft.
Who knows what their next moves are to try and improve the roster for the future? I’m interested to see if they select another quarterback and try this whole process again or just keep trying their luck with Watson.
Last week my game of the week was the Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings and the game did not disappoint. I took the Lions in this game and they came through with the win 31-29, bringing us to 2-1 on picks this season.
Both of these teams look like they are top 5 in the league this year. I’m excited to see this division race down the stretch with these teams, the Packers, and Bears.
Speaking of the Chicago Bears I have them vs the Washington Commanders as my upcoming game of the week. The battle of the first two overall picks from last year’s draft Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels.
Jayden Daniels and the new coaching staff have brought new life to Washington that we haven’t seen since Robert Griffin III was their quarterback. He suffered a rib injury last week so hopefully, he’s able to play Sunday.
Caleb Williams started slow but has now led the Bears to three straight wins coming into this contest.
The books have Chicago as 3 point favorites in this one and I’m going to ride with them. I’m taking the Bears over the Commanders to keep their hot stretch going.
I don’t get paid to make decisions or have opinions but it’s always fun to take a deeper dive into the best stories of the week.
